Help Wanted

Become a Museum Docent!

Did you ever wish you knew more about the Shakers? Do you enjoy answering questions and sharing knowledge about your favorite subjects? The Alfred Shaker Museum has just the right spot for you — Why not become a Museum Docent?

Museum Docents are available during the hours when the Museum is open to answer visitors’ questions about the Shakers and the Museum. Docents are needed on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons during the Museum’s open season (May-November, plus weekends where special events are taking place in town). Sign up for as many weekend times as you wish, or as few. The Museum Curator and members of FASM will be available to help you while you’re there, so you’ll never have to go it alone.

No experience is required. Curator Linda Aaskov will provide training and access to the Museum’s reference materials.

If all this sounds like something you’d like to do, please contact Linda by email at aaskov@metrocast.net, or call her at 207-490-5709.

Attention Kennebunk Savings Customers: Please Vote for FASM!

If you have accounts at Kennebunk Savings Bank, please remember to vote in their 2015 Customer Ballot for Friends of the Alfred Shaker Museum. KSB’s community giving program will award donations to the 125 non-profits that receive the greatest number of votes.

The deadline to vote is April 15. You can do it online or by picking up a paper ballot at a bank branch.

It’s one very easy way to help FASM’s income flow! Thanks.

Please pass this on to anyone you think may help us to a win!

Town Song and Help Wanted

Fosters.com published a story about making “Simple Gifts” the Alfred Town Song.

If you have time on Tuesday afternoon, FASM could use some help adding Museum information to Sanford Growth Council information packets. About 1300 packets still need to be done. These packets will travel to New England trade shows to spread awareness about all that our area has to offer. If you have time and would like to volunteer, contact Mary Lee.

Carpenters Wanted!

The Alfred Shaker Museum is looking for folks who are able to do carpentry. We are working on the upstairs library and could use the help, if anyone is interested in working on an old Shaker Barn. The volunteers who are working on the library meet every Tuesday at 9:30 AM until 3 PM, with time out for lunch. We hope to finish that project by spring.

Please contact us if you are able to help.

Museum Hours:

Museum Hours: 1 PM - 4 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and by appointment.

Closing for the season on November 15.

Admission: Free. Donations are gratefully accepted.
