Wool Felting Class October 28

Our next workshop will take place on October 28th, 2017, starting at 10:00 AM sharp.

Make this friendly Halloween witch to greet all the little hobgoblins that come to your door.

Fiber Arts Nights Resume on June 7

Attention knitters, crocheters, embroiderers, rug hookers/braiders, needle felters, and everyone else who indulges in a fiber-related craft!

Fiber Arts Nights are returning to FASM starting on Tuesday, June 7, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Come join the regulars for a weekly evening of camaraderie while you work on your projects.

Beginners are welcome! Help is available for novice knitters and embroiderers.

Quillie Woolen Ornament Workshop May 13


Make this adorable ornament with instructor Pam Rowan! Sign up for the Quillie Christmas Ornament Workshop, which takes place on May 13 at the Museum. The class runs from 10 AM till finish.

To make this ornament, we’ll cut wool approximately 3/8″ wide, then roll two different-colored wool circles. Next, we glue the rolls onto a Styrofoam ball. Finally, we’ll decorate the finished ornament with a red wool bow.

The complete kit to create this ornament costs $25.00. Pay when you register for the class.

First Workshop for 2016 Announced

The Friends of the Alfred Shaker Museum announce the first craft workshop for 2016. Basket Making with Martha Chessie will be offered on Saturday, May 14, 2016. Details and material cost are still TBD.

Wool Felting Class Open for Registration


Come enjoy a day of crafty fun on Saturday, October 24! Join Beva and learn to needlefelt a black cat and a Jack O’ Lantern. Wouldn’t this pair be perfect for your Hallowe’en decor?

Student kit will include all the materials needed to complete the project.

Cost: $15 for the kit, plus $10.00 for the museum. Total: $25.00.

Pre-registration is required, and class size is 12 students maximum. Call 490-5709 to register.

2015 Workshops

Our first workshops of 2015 have been announced. Be sure to check the website for additional details on these and other workshops planned for 2015!

On June 5 at 7 PM, the Museum will host a Women’s Drumming Workshop. Cost is $10.00. Contact Linda Aaskov to join.

On October 24, we will host another of Beva Meagher’s popular needle felting workshops. All the details are TBD so far, but mark your calendar now!

Needle-Felting Workshop October 18

Time to learn a new craft technique! If you haven’t already signed up for FASM’s fall craft workshop, now’s the time!

Beva Meagher returns to the Alfred Shaker Museum to teach needle-felting techniques with wool. This year’s project is a festive turkey, just in time for the holidays!


Class Description

Students will be guided in the making of a needle felted 3-D “New England Gobbler” autumn turkey crafted from core and dyed wool.

Instruction will also include:

  • Use and purpose of various needles.
  • Techniques for making features.
  • Resources for felting materials.

Each student will receive a kit that includes:

  • 2 felting needles
  • felting foam mat
  • core wool
  • dyed roving wool
  • complete instructions

Cost for kit: $15. Class Fee: $10.

If you are interested in taking this class, you are required to pre-register. Space is limited to 12 students.

Additionally, handcrafted wooden felting multi-tools and pen tools will be demonstrated and available for sale. Specialty needles of differing gauges are also available for sale.

Last year’s Felted Owl class was fun and very popular! You can see photos of the students and their finished works of art here.
