Monthly Archives: February 2015

Town Song and Help Wanted published a story about making “Simple Gifts” the Alfred Town Song.

If you have time on Tuesday afternoon, FASM could use some help adding Museum information to Sanford Growth Council information packets. About 1300 packets still need to be done. These packets will travel to New England trade shows to spread awareness about all that our area has to offer. If you have time and would like to volunteer, contact Mary Lee.

On June 5 at 7 PM, the Museum will host a Women’s Drumming Workshop. Cost is $10.00. Contact Linda Aaskov to join.

On October 24, we will host another of Beva Meagher’s popular needle felting workshops. All the details are TBD so far, but mark your calendar now!

Town Song Update

Five members and supporters of the Alfred Shaker Museum met on February 3 with the Board of Selectmen. The Selectmen responded positively to the motion to make “Simple Gifts” the official Town Song, and they moved to bring the motion to the Town Meeting at the end of March.

Alfred residents, please consider attending the March Town Meeting to support this motion!

“Simple Gifts” to Be Alfred’s Official Town Song?

Alfred residents and friends and fans of “Simple Gifts” are invited to join FASM tomorrow (February 3, 2015) at 6:00 PM for the Selectmen’s Meeting. Members of FASM plan to request that “Simple Gifts” be officially designated as Alfred’s Town Song.

This isn’t the first time that a town in Maine has picked an official Town Song. In December, Belfast did a similar thing with the song “Further On” by Bronze Radio Return. The song was written by a band member who is also a Belfast native. Check out the Press Herald article here.

It is possible that the request will not be approved at the Selectmen’s Meeting. The Selectmen might choose to move the request to the Town Meeting instead.
