Course on Shaker History Offered

Massabesic Center for Adult Learning (MCAL) is offering the course “Introduction to the Shakers” on Wednesday, October 30 from 6-8 PM with instructor Lloyd Hunt. If you’ve ever been curious about the Shaker communities — especially the Alfred Shakers — this course is your opportunity to learn more.

Here’s the description:

The Shakers were considered a “utopian” religious community that existed for over 230 years. Their beginnings were in England, but there was also a vibrant Shaker community here in Alfred. Join us to learn about the basic principles of the society along with the evolution of certain practices. Discuss the difficulties the society has faced and gather information about the remaining community at Sabbathday Lake and various historical locations.

Cost for the course is $14.00. Visit the MCAL website to see the course details and to sign up.
